My Approach
I believe the best outcomes come from combining technical and academic rigour with care that's built around the individual patient — and from delivering that in a way that feels approachable, not clinical and distant.
My job is to help you reach the result you want — safely, and with a clear understanding of what surgery can and cannot do. Not the result I would choose for you, and not a version of you that someone else has decided you should be.
I don't rush. A good operation begins long before the day of surgery, in an unhurried conversation where we work out what actually matters to you, what is realistic, and whether surgery is the right answer at all. Sometimes it isn't, and I will tell you so. I would rather have an honest conversation that talks you out of an operation than perform one that was never going to give you what you were hoping for.
In the operating room, the same principle holds: deliberate, careful, attentive to detail — never hurried, never wasteful. The small things, done consistently well, are what separate a good result from an excellent one, and they are worth the time.
I will be straightforward with you about risks, about recovery, and about the limits of what any surgeon can promise. No procedure comes with a guarantee, and anyone who tells you otherwise isn't being honest. What I can promise is careful judgement, technical attention, and a plan built around your goals rather than mine.
Background
Dr. Corné Nel (pronounced “core-nay”) is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with a focused practice in breast and body surgery and in skin cancer surgery.
He is double board-certified in plastic surgery — by examination, holding both FC Plast Surg(SA) and FRCSC — and holds a PhD in medical education. He has been a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) for over a decade. He has performed more than 1,000 breast reductions over a surgical career spanning nearly two decades, and has previously served as a head of department and residency training supervisor.
His practice combines reconstructive work, much of it covered by MSI with a referral, with a growing range of private cosmetic procedures. Skin cancer excision and reconstruction are a core focus, with an emphasis, where appropriate, on completing removal and reconstruction in a single visit.
